Rembrandt Walk

The life of Rembrandt van Rijn

Step into the world of the most famous painter the Netherlands has ever known.

Rembrandt is originally from Leiden but his connection with Amsterdam is very strong. He therefore moved at a young age and enjoyed everything the city had to offer in golden times. Even now, 4 centuries after his death, we can still find his legacy on canvas and in the city.

Work and live in the spotlight

During the walk, we pass various locations in the city that have connections with his work. Slowly we will discover why he became so famous with his paintings, but we will also gain insight into his fascinating life that is still being discussed today! This is how Rembrandt slowly comes to life for us.

Highligts

While walking through his neighbourhood, we learn more about his life and his works. Locations such as the Rembrandt House, the Staalstraat, the Waag on the Nieuwmarkt, the Zuidertoren, the Dam and the most famous spot where the Night Watch was supposed to have hung are part of our walk. Naturally, we will highlight other beautiful locations along the way and you can always ask our enthusiastic guide questions.

His finest works

If you want to see the most beautiful works of Rembrandt, a visit to the Rijksmuseum is a must! In the gallery of honour of this beautiful museum you will find his most beautiful works in the Netherlands!

Painter Vincent van Gogh was so impressed by The Jewish bride when he saw it with a friend in 1885 that he said:

‘I would give ten years of my life if I could sit here for this painting for a fortnight with a crust of dry bread for food. What an intimate, what an infinitely sympathetic painting’.

The power of Amsterdam

The walk through a 17th century city together with the stories and images of Rembrandt’s works will put you in a special mood. More than ever, at the end of the tour, you will understand why so many people have visited this city for centuries and why this city inspires. From painter to doctor, it doesn’t matter where you come from or where you go, but that… that is the power of Amsterdam.
