Since the end of the 16th century, Amsterdam has been the refuge for Jews from Spain, Portugal and Central and Eastern Europe. Amsterdam was then the only place where Jews could live in freedom.
It is not for nothing that these traces are still visible in the city: both in the language, Amsterdam (Mokum’) customs,a rich history, the unbelievable stories like the Jewish Council (established by the occupying forces), and many shocking stories during the Second World War in Amsterdam.
But also an impressive storie of Jewish Amsterdam on our culture, foodhabbits, language and business stories.
